Someone, somewhere decided that October should be Pastor Appreciation Month.  And, yesterday, Pam and I were honored by our loving church family at Shaeffer’s Chapel.  While this is greatly appreciated, it is far surpassed by the support we get throughout the year by those faithful, steady, caring folks who make the church what it is.  As I frequently remind our church family, a pastor can only be successful if the congregation gives of itself to make the church and its efforts be what God has called us to be.  And we have that at Shaeffer’s Chapel.  At times I realize that we are an anomaly, because as a smaller, growing, 200 year old church we continue to do well as a community of faith in a time when the focus and manner of worship has changed so drastically in the last few years.  We do not have a lot of things that many “new” churches offer.  But we do offer Jesus, and love, and redemption, and salvation every time we gather as well as when we are being the hands and feet of Jesus in our hurting world.  But I say all that to come to this…find a church that is right for you and be faithful to it.  Support its efforts and goals to carry the Gospel to all people.  And never forget, YOU are the church to people who do not know Jesus.  May God continue to bless you richly as you seek to serve Him!
