Life is short, and then you die. I have heard that cliché many times, but I have not found the person who coined the phrase. In any case, in many ways it is so true. We are given limited time on this earth to live, actually a very short time when we dare compare it to eternity. This saying reminded me of what James said in the Bible, James 4:14: “Yet you do not even know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” At some level that should set off an alarm for us to make the most of the time we have been given. Should I live a life of reckless abandonment trying to gain all I can and do all I can for myself? I think not, but I should live my life here building treasures that will last through eternity. I must try to be the person I can be, living out my faith in God in this time I have been given. If I do, then this “mist” I am will turn to rain and someone might feel the love of God as it falls on their life. Yes, this life is short, but an eternity built on your life here is waiting…forever.
